Welcome to the September 2024 issue of Airliner World, incorporating Airports of the World. In July, the team attended Farnborough International Airshow. Despite being a more sedate affair than previous shows, there were still some big announcements, and we bring you the full rundown of all the news from the event.
From Farnborough to the front line, Chris Smith heads to Kabul to go behind the scenes at Kam Air, Afghanistan’s biggest airline, while Dirk Grothe visits Bangkok Airways, winner of the Skytrax Best Regional Airline in the World and Best Regional Airline in Asia award an incredible eight times in a row.
Closer to home, Editor Thomas Haynes caught up with the new boss of Glasgow-based Loganair to ask about his plans. Thomas also travelled to Toulouse/Francazal to visit Airbus Beluga Transport to uncover how the BelugaST has found a second life as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
For this month’s Airports of the World feature, Robert Veitch looks at the life and times of Kansai International Airport, the world’s first to be built on an artificial island. Lee Cross documents Delta Air Lines and United Airlines’ joint entrance to the jet age with the Douglas DC-8. He also uncovers the short-lived story of Euroberlin, the perfect, pan-European tie-up between Air France and Lufthansa, while Andreas Spaeth reports on how the German flag carrier has bounced back from near bankruptcy during the COVID-19 pandemic and its big plans for the future.
