This is a landmark book, the only one released to date, documenting the Luftwaffe career of Gerhard Barkhorn. Written by Bernd Barbas, recognized Luftwaffe author and historian, this new book focuses on Germany's second highest scoring fighter pilot with a final tally of 301 air victories. Compared to the highest scoring Luftwaffe fighter pilot, Eric Hartmann, Barkhorn is almost forgotten today. This book describes Barkhorn's wartime experiences with JG 2 on the English Channel, JG 52, JG 6 and finally JV 44.

Excerpts from original combat reports enable the reader to experience the drama of the events that happened in WWII. Barkhorn's career in the post-war Bundeswehr is also examined. The book examines his life, written completely in the English and German language, and features many large black and white photos along with 35 color photos some of which were taken by Barkhorn himself while he was flying over the Caucasus. The book also showcases 15 large color profiles of all the machines flown by Barkhorn and presents his claims listing.

Hard cover, 9.25" X 11", 208 pages, 8 maps, 155 period photos (35 of which are in color), 15 full color profiles.
