Warpaint Series No. 90

The standard layout for a Warpaint Book is to provide a good all around history of the subject, and this is no exception. The book jumps into the background of the development of the B-17, which dates back to the mid-1930s, and then moves on into the initial flight testing and further refinement of the design. The war came quickly for the B-17, though, and it was immediately thrown into the conflict. The operational history of the B-17 across all its various operators could fill volumes, but this book does a good job of detailing both the wartime exploits and the post-war usage of the Flying Fortress.

Throughout the book are plenty of excellent photos. While many have been seen time and again, there are some nice examples, especially of the post-war and foreign B-17s. Complementing the photographs are the color profiles, of which there are plenty. These show both the great variety of wartime markings as well as the diversity of camouflage schemes throughout the history of the B-17. As usual, the book includes a set of scale drawings, and these look to be of the usual good quality found in the Warpaint series. 64 pages.
